In early May, former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver separated after 25 years of marriage. At the time, the split was presented to the media as amicable. The couple released the following statement:
We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public.”
Unfortunately, it’s not quite so simple. On Tuesday, the LA Times reports that Shriver left Schwarzenegger after he admitted to fathering a child with a member of their household staff. Schwarzenegger tells the Times that the child was born “over a decade ago.”
Schwarzenegger came clean to Shriver about the love child after leaving the Governor’s office. The mother of the child retired in January after working for the Schwarzeneggers for 20 years.
In a statement, the former Governor says: “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry. I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
Folks, this has to stop. David learned the hard way and why can’t we learn from his mistakes? Okay, he fathered a child then killed the husband, and what were the ramifications? God allowed David’s own sons to violate and humiliate David by returning the favor in his own household. This was never meant to be a soap opera like people make it to be; instead a warning to what monogamy can and will do. It divides families.
The media has been exposing Arnold’s story as if he will really feel the affects of his actions. The story will end like these stories normally do…people will say things like “he’s a guy”, “he’s normal”, “it happens”, better yet “its his past.” Next thing, he becomes a spokesperson for anti-monogamy or something regarding relationships and family, then comes Oprah, etc…it is the same ol’ stuff.
My heart goes out to their family and the children who will somehow be affected by this. Although this is a secular issue, this same issue occurs within the church and no one is saying anything about it. People, God is not happy with what the men are doing to His daughters.
